Weekend stitch meditations

The dragonfly is a leftover scrap from an altered book I made a long time ago.
The giraffes are from an old camp shirt I cut up rather than donate to thrift store.   There are other animals that I will use when Im in a jungle frame of mind.   I am watching "Naked and Afraid"  tv show, so animals are on my radar.   So glad to be here warm and comfortable with refrigerator full of tasty edibles, rather than digging for grubs and trying to make a fire to dry off and keep warm.   I am counting my blessings.   And stitching.

Stitch meditations this week.

I am continuing to do one a day.  Usually I will sort through fabric pieces and scraps in the evening and pick out what I will work on in the morning.  Three mornings a week I go to art groups at local senior centers. I do my stitching there.    Most people are painting or drawing, but presently this is my activity of choice.   Its so easy to carry a stitch bag with minimal supplies.   Not like hauling wet canvases and paints.    Here are some recent stitched pieces.

Thrift store find

I picked up this quilt yesterday in a Lodi Thrift Shop for $5.99.  It was tied in a plastic bag, folded so I didnt see more than a small section.   I figured as a cutter it would be worth the price so didnt bother to unwrap it.    Later when I took it out of the bag to launder it, I was surprised to see it is a usable piece.    Only the edge of borders on the sides show wear.    Its made a new home on my bed.

Friends who share

My friend Sally sent a package of fabric pieces and variegated embroidrry floss.   This is a stitch meditation with one of her scraps and some of her thread.    Thanks Sally.

Some of my recent stitch meditations..

Its hard to pick favorites.....  one of the joys of these is being able to use up interesting hoarded scraps.   Whether from clothes, bedspread, linens, or sewing projects.

Wednesday stitch meditations

Tuesday stitch meditatio n

It was an aha moment when these scraps fell  together in the basket.   They looked  good together, but needed the circle piece to finish it off.

Still painting.

Although I have slacked off a bit from my daily morning paintings, I am looking forward to starting the routine again.    Heres a recent watercolor.

Scraps from friends

Some time ago my sister in law Kris shared some scraps leftover from a quilt she made.   I am enjoying using them in my stitch meditations. These are yummy edibles prints. Thanks for sharing Kris.

Stitch meditations

I recently started making 4 x 4 inch hand stitched pieces following the video instructions by Liz Kettle.  You can Google Stitch Meditation and Liz Kettle to find links.    This is the first time I have been able to post to my old blog so now have to learn the changes and how to do the things that used to be so simple.  As I am using a tablet rather than a computer it is not as simple.     Or maybe I just need to practice...
