Our mixed media group did a fish project with these paper fish I bought from Amazon last year. I tucked them away somewhere safe, and lost them. When I was looking for something else, I found the fish again and decided it was time to pull them out and do them before I lost them again. We started by doing some work with water soluble crayons, and then brought them out to my studio where we sprayed them with deylusion ink sprays through various stencils.
A few years ago our group was interested in using stencils and spray inks on journal pages. I had not used these materials for at least 2 years. It was fun to get them out again and found they had not dried out.
I've always liked fish as a theme and although these are meant to be windsocks, I cut them in half so it gave us more pieces to work with. Everyone went home happy with beautiful fish.
These are hanging in my studio.

Journal page revisited
March 21st I posted a pic of the pages done at the mixed media meeting. Since then, I've been tweaking and adding doodles. Here are some bits and pieces of the changes.
Mixed Media Play Day
yesterday our mixed media group met at our old Pizza place for our meeting. They were kind enough to let us take over a few tables for the entire morning while we had show and tell to start with and then a group project led by my pal Rosemary. She showed us some zen doodles on Easter shapes. Bunnies, eggs, crosses. And she brought samples, some books with designs, and supplies. We each had our own personal tool kits, including things like scissors, pens, pencils, ruler, paints, etc.
I knew what the project would be and had already decided a few weeks back, to start a new journal with a sample of each meeting's projects. So, I prestamped eggs on a journal page with distress inks for a background, figuring I'd mount my shaped piece on top. Today I added the textures and doodles to the background. I used some of the new Balzar stencils for some of the shapes in background. Then I added the piece I worked on at the meetig yesterday. Here is the result.

Mixed Media Day
Thursday a few of us met in Lodi for the mixed media group. We had a good time working on some projects and having a good show and tell. A couple of us had signed on for the Creative Jump Start 2014,so we had a few little projects to talk about and show. The theme this year was use of ordinary household materials. Barbara had done samples of the toilet paper wrapped hangers. I had tons of fibers for people to use if they wanted to. Barbara and Linda and Marilyn had painted some bubble wrap for a project where the sheets are ironed together to make an interesting plastic sheet which can be cut for collage material. I'd like to do some post cards with some of this. In fact, I may just do some this afternoon.
This is a neck piece that Vivian wore in to show us. She had made it some time ago following a workshop she attended. It's awesome.
Our motly crew. LOL

Day 4 of 30 day challenge
I have a cold. I'm stuck in the house. So, I am more ambitious with my painting challenge today. I've been wanting to do a mixed media winking owl for the last few weeks but didn't have the time. I spent about an hour cutting tiny feathers from a page from an old book. That I could do sitting in the solarium, soaking up the sun and enjoying it's warmth. I started the painting process out there too, but the paint dried too fast and I was getting roasted at 80 degrees, so I came inside to finish it. I used white gesso, and golden acrylic paints. Jenkins Green, Paynes Grey, burnt umber. Here he is, painted in my art journal.
