Chicken, step by step.

I thought you might enjoy seeing the preliminary steps of a chicken painting.

I used a heavy gesso for texture and while it was still wet started laying in color strokes to sketch.   I liked the looseness and continued to layer in color strokes.

Here she is now.

Here chick, chick, chick...

Thats how I called them at feeding time.  It didnt take any coaxing, they would dash to me waiting to see what treats I had for them.  I miss having chickens.
I painted her some years ago and put her and a red rooster in the gallery for sale.  The rooster sold immediately, but this one did not, so she hangs in my kitchen.  Its one of my favorite pieces. And isnt that an amazing frame?

Little birds

Series began long ago.  Just now getting back to them.  Some are being changed , while a couple of them were good enough as they are.  I ran into these in the studio the other day and thought this would be a good time to finish them up.

They are ready to gift or sell now.

Chickens

This cheery little hen is a work in progress.  Im o bvb a roll with my new series. I gave in to a new series.  Pandemic allows time to play with subjects and techniques. Right now its confetti backgrounds and hens.
I have been hacked by someone in Nigeria.   Emails were sent asking help getting play station gift cards for nephew.  Tthis is the same message I got from another friend weeks ago.  I hope none of you clicked on the link.  All is fine here but have yet been able to get out of this stinking mess left behind by hackers.    Not sure this will go out, but trying as a test.

Confetti chicken

Bob Burridge recently put out a post showing his process to do abstract chickens.   I watched and grabbed up a canvas and prepared to tackle this.  Well, I cant get results I like using his type of loose colorful brush strokes.  So I modified mine to use brush strokes I am comfortable doing.

The colors I used are inspired by Burridge.  The  followed his mantra, short, choppy strokes. Light against dark.   Instead of carving out the chicken from random strokes of colors,  I  chose to dabble colors over a solid background.

We are still in isolation so theres plenty of time to play with paints.
SOLD.

PEACE

TH
he Carving Consortioum, a Yahoo group I'm a member of, is starting a post card swap on the theme of peace.   It must have a handcarved image and also a peace symbol.  The carved stamp can be that peace symbol.   Im starting mine. Ive done a sketch, and also started a painting based on this theme.  Im not ready to share pics yet....  I want to surprise you.   Please stay tuned.

Black and white

Many years ago I created an altered book, titled Black and White.   The state of the nation currently reminded me of this book which was tucked away on a bookshelf.    I thought I would share it page by page.    I loaded them in order but they uploaded randomly.    No matter.
