An old collage

Digging through a drawer in art shed cabinet, I turned up several old collages.  Here is one.

Felted birds

I recently completed the first two shown here.

I am finding it useful to do some detail work in embroidery. It feels really good to handle these pieces, which makes the process really pleasurable.

The duckling is finally finished with a background added.  He's so soft.  I plumped him up a bit as I did with the bird in top picture.

Needle felted flower

I could hardly wait to do something with that lovely purple wool roving.   I had no plan at all, but a simple flower is all I have been able to create in f
Wools, so that was first.  The beautiful greens I purchased awhile ago i planned to use for leaves, but on a  whim it became stripes in the background.

Mixed media group - torn paper collage

At our last meeting we decided we would do another collage each one doing our own. I thought I would be able to try a very simple collage with large blocks of muted colors. But when one of the gals brought fashion magazines with really good color on the advertisements, I just had to use those bright colors on the glossy paper. I didn't really have a subject in mind, but after looking at the scrap I'd torn up they  seemed to evoke food images, or fruit. So I ended up doing tablescape of mixed fruit. Here it is.
Maybe in future I can curb my enthusiasm for bright colors and do a sudbdued meditative collage piece.

Meanwhile, in front garden....

Its Spring there too.

SPRING IN THE GARDEN

Even small gardens can be filled with color.  Its my oasis.   I have only watered twice since last fall.  We have had abundant rainfall this winter, and even this week.  But the days are warmer and we have a few sunny days.  So look what happened to the seeds I spread at the end of the season last fall.  When I was doing clean up, I would gather and sow my favorites.  They are wonderful.   I finally have a great display of California poppies, just at thevtime when tourists are going en masse to Southern California wildflower areas to see hillsides covered in the orange blooms.   But first lets peek in my back garden.

Mixed media group collaborative collage

Marilyn, one of our long time group members suggested we do a collaborative collage.  I was delighted, as I do very little collage work any more, and its a wonderful opportunity to share supplies and have some fun.    We passed watercolor sheets around the table, glued a few pieces on and then passed them on again and again until ultimately it came back to the originator. Five of us worked on each one.  Thanks gals.  I love mine.

We were so into our composing and gluing it was often silent at the work table.   Very unusual for our chatty group.  LOL.

A little water color

This is the first watercolor I did with the Friday
group.  Someone gave me the lemons, so I painted them.

Another art group!

Now there is a new group of artist wannabes at the senior mobile home park.  A new resident posted a note on the bulletin board to find out if anyone would be interested. There were 6 at the first meeting.   Two have never painted.  But seemed genuinely interested.    Next meeting just two of us showed up.  But yesterday there were six again.  And we had a fun morning getting acquainted and either painting or sketching.

There were oranges and veggies on the counter so Indid a little quick still life.    Now that its dry I can see I need to beef up the color.
